My Favorite Things – Rainy Day Edition

As severe weather and tornado warnings hit the coastal Georgia area this weekend, what better thing to discuss than rainy day must-haves? Gloomy… dreary…. wet…. and cold. Sounds miserable, right? Not to me! Rainy days are a favorite of mine, especially since a full day of rain is a rarity in this area. Here are some of my  favorite things to have when you are stuck inside:

Board Games

Especially with a 4 year old in the house, you can’t just slug it out on the couch. You have to keep the little ones entertained to keep them from bouncing off the walls.

Candy Land is a classic and definitely not just for the holidays. Mickey’s Clubhouse Surprise Slides and Mickey Mouse HiHo! Cherry-O are two of my daughter’s go-to games. Disney Princess Pop-Up Magic Castle and the new Trolls Trouble game are perfect for the little princess in your house. Jenga and Pie Face Game are new to our house, but keep the laughs coming.

If you’re looking for a game to really challenge your brain that also has a basic game play easy for smaller kids, give HeroClix a try. The learning curve is pretty steep, but you can get started with the basics in as little as 5 minutes.

Comic Books

I never thought to buy comic books as an adult, but my husband has been collecting them since he was a kid. After several visits to the comic book store with him, both my daughter and I have picked up our own comic books to try.

Some of my husband’s favorites are Old Man Logan, Daredevil or Gears of War. I’ve picked up Jem and the Holograms, The Misfits, and the new Betty & Veronica. My daughter likes Sonic and Disney Princesses.

Movies… duh!

What would a rainy day be without movies? Between Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, HBO Now, and XBOX or Playstation Movies we are never at a loss for something to watch.

A few things we’ve watched lately are Taboo with Tom Hardy, The Accountant with Ben Affleck, Barbie’s Dreamhouse (I think you know who chose that one;)), and Band of Brothers.

What are some of your favorite things to have on a rainy day?

Date Night

Last night we had a long awaited date night as husband + wife. Our first one! For our date nights, we like to stay in at home, make our own dinner + catch up on movies or tv shows. We both think it is much nicer to take time out at home, rather than dress up + go out.

We made a dinner of lobster, salad + popovers. It was delicious + I can’t wait for the next one!
