A Review on Baby Carriers vs Stroller

I will start off by saying that I’m a huge fan of baby wearing. Anything I can do to avoid pushing around a large, clunky stroller is the way to go. I’ve always been the type of person that will load up my arms as much as possible so that I don’t have to push a shopping cart.

In order to get myself back in shape I started talking walks with Lachlyn. Her car seat snaps into the stroller and in an effort to make her like the car seat more, I decided to take the stroller out.

Stroller

We were given a Chicco Cortina KeyFit 30 Travel System. Nothing beats free, am I right? The stroller is functional, however not my ideal stroller for exercise type walking/jogging.  The turning radius is just not there and it is rather bulky.

Next I tried talking her out in our Ergo.

Ergo Carrier

While I love the Ergo and it is super comfortable to wear, Lachlyn just does not want to be facing inward. She is curious and interested in seeing the world and the Ergo’s inability to have her forward facing made this exercise trip difficult. She strained the whole time trying to look out and around. At the furthest point of our walk she had a complete meltdown. One thing I do love about the Ergo, I was easily able to loosen the straps a little and get her into a nursing position. She nursed the entire walk back home and the Ergo easily conceals everything. Major points there!

As far as other baby carriers, I completely love our Baby K’Tan. It was perfect when she was a newborn and she loves facing out in this carrier. I use it exclusively for shopping. The only downside is that is just doesn’t have the padding I need for my shoulders to be able to wear this out for exercise.

I’m still on the lookout for a forward facing carrier that has enough support for walking long distances. What is your experience with baby carriers?

Monday Must-Haves! Hair Skin Nails

I believe that every woman + girl has at least one beauty product that they swear by + just can’t live without. I was a late bloomer when it comes to makeup or even putting an effort into doing my hair. When you live in a place that has a Mud Season… it is more important to get your car dug out from a mud pit on a dirt road, than looking cute in high heels + perfect makeup. The full extent of my makeup routine in high school was black eyeliner + some mascara… on a good day.

It wasn’t until I was in my early 20’s that I developed an appreciate for makeup + putting an effort into what my hair looked like. After I obtained my nail license, I began working at Beau Totale Salon + Spa where my entire outlook changed. The great group of girls that worked there with me at the time (some of them are still working there!) taught me what it meant to actually “style” your hair + about correct makeup application.

Since those days I feel like I’ve tried a million different products; some good + some bad. Here are a few that have stuck with me that I use on a daily basis today:

  1. e.l.f. Studio Endless Eyes Pro Eyeshadow Palette ~ this palette comes with 100 colors in everything from muted shades to bright pops of color. It is great for everyday use, no matter what you’re wearing, without spending a lot on 100 separate pots of shadow {it’s only $10!}
  2. Essence Multi Action False Lashes Mascarayou can get the false eyelash look without the hassle of accidentally gluing your eyeball shut {you know you’ve done it too!}
  3. e.l.f. Essential All Over Color Stick in Spotlight ~ perfect for adding some shimmer + glow to your eyes, lips + face. I use this product mostly when I don’t feel like applying bronzer, but want a dewy glow to my skin.
  4. NYX Glitter Powder ~  I have several of these pots of glitter in various colors. I add it on top of eye shadow or use it on it’s own. A trick I use is applying a thin layer of Vaseline to the area I want the glitter to stick prior to applying the glitter. This works great if you want a solid area of glitter instead of just a dusting.
  5. Rimmel London Natural Bronzer in Sun Light ~ this is my go-to bronzer. It isn’t too light or too dark, just the perfect shade of sun-kissed skin. One thing I will say, if you do bronzer all-over your face, like I do, make sure you hit your ears + blend it down into your neck. Nothing worse than seeing someone with a mask of bronzer than ends at the jaw line.
  6. L’Oreal Eye Defense ~ I have yet to find an eye cream I like that actually delivers the results they promise. I am plagued with dark circles that make me look tired. This eye cream is the one I’m currently trying out. Still up in the air on this one.
  7. AG Hair Cosmetics Waxx Gloss Pomade ~ probably the most expensive hair product I use, but a little goes a long way, making it last forever. It isn’t sticky, it doesn’t dry hard… it adds just he right amount of texture that is great for my choppy asymmetrical bob.
  8. amika Oil Treatment ~ I know I didn’t spend $40 on this product, but can’t seem to find a cheaper price online. Add this to your hair while still damp before heat styling to keep the moisture in.
  9. Aveda Intensive Hyrdrating Masque ~ my all-time favorite Aveda product! Not only is it great on your face, but also works on hands + feet, or really any dry patches of skin. I recommend it to everyone.
  10. Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes ~ I blow through these like wild fire. In the morning, at night + even after I’ve already washed my face in the shower to get rid of mascara that just didn’t come off.
  11. Palmer’s Tummy Butter for Stretch Marks ~ I’ve always loved Palmer’s products, but especially this tummy butter since becoming pregnant. It’s rich, creamy texture seems to really keep the moisture in + curbs any itchy skin. No sign of stretch marks, yet… but I still have a few months to go.
  12. Orange Wood Sticks ~ these are great for pushing cuticles or wrapping in cotton to use for cleaning up nail polish mistakes. For around $5 for over 100 of them, they make for cheap, useful tools.
  13. e.l.f. Essential Eyelid Primer in Sheer + Pearl ~ keeps your eyeshadow on like glue!
  14. NYX Cream Blush in Hot Pink ~ just a dab or two of this hot pink cream blush gives you the perfect flushed glow.
  15. Cutie Animal Lens Case in Hippo ~ I don’t wear contact lenses, but I have a few pairs of theatrical cosmetic contacts + wear better to store them than this cute lens case?
  16. Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Renewing Treatment ~ my hair is really dry from color processing + heat styling. I use this alternating every other day with a regular conditioner to keep my hair soft + healthy.
  17. e.l.f. Studio Flawless Finish Foundation in Sand ~ I usually go for a tinted moisturizer instead of a foundation, until I found this. It has great coverage while still staying light + breathable on your skin. It has a semi-matte finish + stays put all day. Added bonus, SPF 15!
  18. Bobby Pins + Wave Clips ~ since my hair is growing out + still fairly short, I don’t have much use for a  lot of hair accessories. Wave clips are great for holding hair up while heat styling + clipping bangs out of your face while you apply makeup. Bobby pins are my go-to hair accessory for putting my hair up as best I can when it is too hot for even leaving the small amount of length I have down.

What are your favorite beauty products? I’d love suggestions, as I always like to try new things!
